These secondary shelf lives, which are not compulsory, are provided by your suppliers in order to monitor the product’s life, safety and organoleptic qualities as closely as possible.

The shop secondary shelf life corresponds to the time during which the product retains all its nutritional, organoleptic and health qualities once the original packaging is opened by the shop and the product is transferred to sales equipment.

The consumer secondary shelf life corresponds to the shelf life of the product once the consumer has filled the container himself or through a member of staff.

If the manufacturer has entered shop and/or consumer secondary shelf live (generally for pasty products such as jam, ketchup, etc.), these durations will be automatically applied to the sealed-bag BBD/UBD that you enter.

For example:

  • If the shop secondary shelf ife is 3 months,
  • and the best-before date of the sealed-bag product is 01/12/2025
  • and you open the bag for siloing on 01/05/2025,
  • then the recommended shelf life (in shop) applies until 31/08/2025.

The consumer will be given the following information: 31/08/2025.
